Get ready to lace up those running shoes! Downtown Rocks and Runs is BACK and better than ever with a brand-spankin'-new name and an exhilarating new course!

Introducing... the ARARAT RIVER RUN 5K/10K!

Our new race takes you along the beautiful Granite City Greenway in Mount Airy, running by the scenic Ararat River. Choose your adventure – conquer the fast and fun 5K or go the distance with the more challenging 10K.

But wait, there's more! Every stride you take, every bead of sweat you drop, goes directly to the amazing United Fund of Surry. That means you're not just getting a fantastic workout; you're fueling 26 incredible local agencies right here in Surry County and Southern VA! Talk about running with a purpose!

The Ararat River Run isn't just a race; it's the high-energy kickoff to our annual United Fund campaign, bringing our community together for a day of fitness, fun, and fantastic impact.

Registration Fees
  • 5K Individual, Team Fitness Challenge, and Corporate Participation Challenge
    • Early Registration through 7/27:    $35 
    • Standard Registration 7/28-8/9:  $40
  • 10K Individual and Corporate Participation Challenge
    • Early Registration through 7/27:    $40
    • Standard Registration 7/28-8/9:  $45
  • Fun Run: FREE for Kids 12 and under (no t-shirt); $10 w/shirt purchase. Shirts available through 7/28!
Online registration runs through August 9th at 7:30 AM.

Prior to July 28th, Participants may also complete a paper registration form at Reeves Community Center, 113 S. Renfro Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.

Finishers will receive a finishers medal!

Runners registered by July 20, 2025 are assured an awesome event t-shirt and the best goodie bag around!  

Run/walk individually or be part of a team --

5K or 10K Individual
Run the 5K or 10K and be eligible for individual awards, or join one of our 5K Team challenges below.
*Walkers and strollers are welcome in the 5K.*

5K Team Fitness Challenge
Sign up for the 5K Run/Walk as a team to qualify for the 5K Team Fitness Challenge award! The award is presented to the fastest team based on the average time of the top 5 team members. Team members also qualify for individual awards.
*To be included in the 5K Fitness Challenge, choose the 5K Run/Walk registration option and select the option to Create a New Team or Join an Existing Team during registration.

5K and 10K Corporate Participation Challenge
Show your company's pride and commitment to health and fitness. The organization with the highest number of Ararat River Run 5K or 10K run/walk participants will receive a Corporate Participation Challenge trophy.

Choose the 5K Corporate Participation Challenge or 10K Corporate Participation Challenge registration option and create or choose your company team when registering to be included in the participation challenge.

Recovery
An assortment of breakfast foods, fruit, and water will be available for the runners at the finish line.

Awards:
  • Overall Top Male and Female in the 5K and 10K win $250!
  • 5K and 10K Individual Awards: Overall 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place Male/Female and Top 3 Male/Female Age Divisions: 13 and under, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+; based on gun time
  • Corporate Participation Challenge: Team trophy for the company with the highest number of Ararat River Run participants in the 5K and 10K combined.
  • Fun Run (Kids 12 and under): All Fun Runners will receive a participation ribbon.
  • 5K Team Fitness Challenge Award: Prizes for the fastest team finish - average time of the top 5 team members based on gun time.
The 5K and 10K races will have a gun start and chip timed finish. This means that all participants will have the same start time, and the finish time will be recorded as each runner crosses the finish line by reading the chip on the back of your numbered bib. Timing services will be provided by Go! Sports Timing and Events.

The Fun Run will have a clock at the finish line, but individual times are not recorded for this event.
